In case the medical encyclopedia's definition leaves you shaking your head and puzzled, let's describe the mesothelium in another way. It's pretty much a protective sack that covers most of your internal organs.

This may sound like a weird place to get cancer. Of course, getting cancer anyplace is weird and no good, but there's something decidedly odd about it appearing in such a seemingly random zone. Turns out much of the time, those who suffer from mesothelioma didn't just "get it." Rather, they were exposed to asbestos particles, which lead to the appearance of the disease.

As time passed, people who suffered prolonged exposure to the substance started developing debilitation symptoms that were eventually linked to cancer.
